'MAKE IT A RULE NEVER TO GIVE A CHILD A BOOK YOU WOULD NOT READ YOURSELF' George Bernard Shaw.
Hey, I'm Catherine, mum to three boys and a crazy pup trying to navigate parenting and building a future for my family whilst hopefully nourishing yours. I believe in the power of books to do great things to the brain, they wake up our imaginations with a little shot of stimulation right when we need it.
Books are a big part of the parenting toolkit, they are helpful when trying to unravel the emotional wranglings of a nine year old, they can be calming for a boisterous seven year old. They can add fun or explain sadness, provide much needed entertainment and assist development which makes you feel like you are wearing a parenting badge of honour. We love great looking artwork so why shouldn’t we enjoy it whilst we read to our kids at night.
Smallprint is about the types of kids’ books that we love as adults, books that we hope the whole family will enjoy. Our shelves are all ‘curated’ for want of a better word, they are not your standard paperbacks (which are also great by the way…), they are a little bit special. Captivating storytelling, awe-inspiring imagery from some seriously talented illustrators and artists, brilliant interactive books for babes and crafty masterpieces for the pre-schoolers. The best of the best from a range of small and independent publishers, all enjoyed and road-tested in our own home.
I couldn't find a well edited shop of lovely books that were special enough to be given to friends and families, a bunch of people who love nice things and appreciate quality design. So I thought I would create it.
