Anything goes with this age as they seesaw between being very grown-up and really quite little.  In our experience you can excite any aged child with a board book as long as it looks enticing, we're talking counting, the alphabet, colour mixing or spot the difference.  You can also stir up a little brain activity with story books about night-time adventures or wordless books that require imagination to make up a fun story as you go along.  Then of course there are pop-ups and lift the flap books, anything that holds a surprise behind it's pages will guarantee a thrill and cheer.
