BabyLit: Classic literature for very little readers

Classic literature for very little readers
When it comes to baby books, there are those covered in extra fuzz and fluff, those that play an unexpectedly enthusiastic jingle and those with enough clashing colours to bring on a migraine.
At Smallprint, we prefer books that provide plenty of sensory discovery while still looking rather lovely on the bookshelf. Because even if we don’t all have the beautifully styled nursery of our dreams, it’s nice to pretend we do.
If you enjoy choosing books that say something about your own excellent taste and perhaps make subtle reference to that English Literature degree you occasionally mention then the BabyLit collection is for you.

BabyLit takes much-loved works of classic literature and transforms them into beautifully illustrated board books for babies and toddlers. Instead of attempting to explain the finer details of Shakespeare or Melville at bedtime, little readers can explore simple ideas such as counting, colours, animals and opposites through characters and settings inspired by the original stories.

Count kisses and love letters in Romeo & Juliet, explore colours with Alice in Wonderland, meet jungle animals with Mowgli or set sail on a first literary adventure with Moby-Dick and Treasure Island. You could even challenge the more literary member of the household to discuss Shakespearean symbolism with a six-month-old. It may be a fairly one-sided conversation, but it’s never too early to start.

With their satisfyingly chunky pages, stylish illustrations and clever references for grown-ups to enjoy, these books make wonderful new-baby gifts. They’re attractive enough to display, sturdy enough for small hands and, most importantly, designed to be shared again and again.
The current BabyLit collection includes Alice in Wonderland, Romeo & Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Jungle Book, Moby-Dick, Treasure Island and Peter Pan.
